IBM: AI Will Transform Mental Health in 5 Years – Robotics Trends

IBM recently unveiled its “IBM 5 in 5” list of innovations it believes could change the world in five years. The first prediction is that machine learning and natural language processing will be able to predict and monitor mental health issues.

IBM says “with AI, our words will be a window into our mental health.” According to IBM, AI will be able to analyse patterns of speech and writing to determine the best course of treatment for mental diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s disease, PTSD or even neuro-developmental conditions such as autism and ADHD.

“Cognitive computers will analyze a patient’s speech or written words to look for tell-tale indicators found in language, including meaning, syntax and intonation. Combining the results of these measurements with those from wearables and imaging systems (MRIs and EEGs) can paint a more complete picture.”
